International Nurses’ Day May 12th: celebrating in Bled, Slovenia

Organised by the ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS OF MEDICINSKIH SESTER, BABIC IN ZDRAVSTVENIH TEHNIKOV SLOVENIJE NURSES, MIDWIVES AND MEDICAL TECHNICIANS OF SLOVENIA
Professor Pam Smith and Dr Rosie Stenhouse, Nursing Studies, University of Edinburgh on their first visit to establish an Erasmus Mobility Exchange Programme, were invited to attend the event by our partners from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Maribor
The event took place in Bled Conference Centre

‘Proud to be a nurse’
Nurses from all over Slovenia came to celebrate. Ten Awards were presented for outstanding service to nursing in Slovenia.

Every year the Angela Boskin prize is presented for Life Time Achievement. This year it went to Marusca Solar the first specialist psychiatric nurse in the former Yugoslavia.

After the event everyone enjoyed Slovenian dancing, music, food and wine

Victoria Stiglic Head Nurse at the Psychiatric Hospital in Maribor (where we visited earlier in the day) and Dr Klavdija Trifkovic, Senior lecturer from the Faculty of Health Sciences with Dr Rosie Stenhouse from Edinburgh. Plans are in place to develop a specialist mental health course for qualified nurses and Rosie has been invited to participate.
We look forward to future visits over the next five years of the partnership
