Crafting Magic. Tamworth Central, Ontario, Canada

23rd July – 30th August 2025. (Curated by Dr Neven Lochhead)

– Version 1 | 23-24 July 2025
– Version 2 | 30-31 July 2025
– Version 3 | 6-7 August 2025

– Exhibition | Saturday, August 30th – Saturday September 27th 2025 (Curated by Dr Neven Lochhead)

Crafting Magic emerges from The Thickening, a long-form interview on magic and open learning with Dr Neven Lochhead (Montréal, QC. Canada) that we published as an OER. The OER was commissioned by Queens’ University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Neven and I generated a fork of Shift/Work: Crafting Magic named “Crafting Magic”. This fork ran as a workshop and exhibition in Tamworth, Ontario, Canada, 23rd July – 7th August 2025.

Three ‘versions’ of Crafting Magic were composed in Tamworth by artists participating in the project. Each two-day magic workshop crafted a further three forks of the OER. This constitutes a magical process of ‘thickening’ that Neven and I explore in-depth in our extended interview.

An exhibition of Crafting Magic is held at Tamworth Central from Saturday, August 30th – Saturday September 27th 2025

The Tamworth fork is coded with Neven Lochhead in GitLab. Following the Tamworth exhibition on September 27th 2025, the fork will be published as an OER alongside our extended interview. Neven and I will then use the OER to teach our respective courses running in Kingston and Edinburgh in the autumn of 2025.
