Atelier NMS
National Museum Scotland, Edinburgh.
Atelier NMS, was a day-long charrette at the National Museum Scotland, Chambers Street, Edinburgh.
The aim of the charrette was to investigate four objects selected by NMS curators from their archives. The objects were revealed and available on the day of the charrette only. The objects related to the following themes:
– Tool
– Process
– Colour
– Model
By engaging with things in the custody of NMS, we hope to map and improve conditions for cross-disciplinary collaboration, shifting the emphasis away from doing research towards the creation of research objects. To this end, we worked in four small groups each consisting of a mixture of social scientists, arts and humanities scholars, artists, designers, makers and curators from across the museum and gallery sectors.
To conclude, the object facilitators reported back on the various ways in which each object has enabled different methods of material enquiry.
