Friday 20th June
Dear All,
Thank you for your work this week.
Some of you may have withdrawn your labour today and if you prefer not to cross a picket line you should be ok in accessing Argyle House although you may see protests at Kings Buildings (Nucleus) , Main Library and at the Central campus (EFI and McEwan Hall).
Thank you to everyone who staffed stands, spoke and displayed posters at the Learning and Teaching Conference. Thank you to Geoff for presenting at the media and learning conference on all the things the media production team provide to help teachers producing their own educational videos. If you didn’t get chance to see the posters it would be great to get them stuck up on the walls on our Wing and shared in the LTW Colleague hub LTW Colleague Hub so that everyone can get insights into what we say about what we do.
Sadly this week we are waving goodbye to one of our John Wilsons, off to pastures new in CMVM.
But preparing to welcome our Career Ready Intern, Finlay Minto who will be with us for 4 weeks, supervised by Fiona Buckland and Jonathan Mori. One of Finlay’s projects will be to create an interactive ThingLink map ThingLink to feature on the LTW Colleague Hub to showcase the best local spots recommended by staff. Please help by populating this data set today. Do you have a favourite coffee shop, scenic walk, bookshop, vintage clothes store, TV location, Michelin starred restaurant, gift shop, or hidden gem near Argyle House that you think your colleagues should know about? Now’s your chance to share it by completing this short form. (Please use discretion when commenting re local pole dancing venues as Finlay is still at school).

It was lovely to celebrate with colleagues yesterday for the launch of the new short course platform. It’s taken a lot of people a lot of work over a long time, but we can really see the impact of that success ahead of us now. Widening Access to learning at University of Edinburgh Thank you to Cassie for organising the venue and catering featuring stackable chunks of tater tots.
It looks like mixed sunshine and showers for midsummer solstice weekend ahead, so if you do climb a hill or go to touch a standing stone, be sure to wear non-slip footwear.
Ask your manager about dress-code for the ISG summer all-staff revel.
