Friday 24th January

Dear All,

Thank you for your work this week.

I hope you are all safe at home and protected from storm Eowyn. The winds are likely to impact the wild haggis hunters out on the moors, so fresh haggis will be scarce for dinner tomorrow. Neeps and tatties will probably be safe.

Thank you to everyone who has  already contributed to the LTW Foodbank collection. The Burns Bins are looking unco full already.

It is good to see our AV equipment loans service being well used by staff and students on campus. The service has just issued its 10000th loan since summer 2019 and  considering campus was closed for around 18 months due to Covid, that’s a surprisingly high number and the service does seem to be getting more popular year on year. If you didn’t know we have an equipment load service, here it is: Multimedia Equipment Loans | Information Services

Congratulation to everyone who was awarded a ‘Teacher of Skills’ digital badge at our celebration on Monday. More than 50 colleagues from across ISG give a bit of their time each semester to run training sessions for students and their contribution to our digital skills programme helps to make it one of the largest and most comprehensive in UK HE. Teacher of Skills – The University of Edinburgh  We couldn’t do it without you.

Congratulations and welcome back to Eva, who spent Christmas conquering volcanos Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in the Andes.

Other people seem to have spent Christmas online.  22 Submissions, 910 Feedback comments and marks were made on Christmas Day 2024. 51 Submissions, 3064 Feedback comments and marks were made on New Year’s day 2025. Learning technology never rests.

It will soon be time to put up our decorations for lunar new year, marking the start of the year of the Wood Snake. If there are other cultural events you would like to help decorate  or celebrate , let me know.

It’s nearly ‘survey season’ keep an eye out for the National Student Survey(NSS) and the  Edinburgh Staff Engagement Survey, coming soon.

Stay safe.
