Hi, we’re Edinburgh University Musical Medics.
We are a musical society made up of a choir, orchestra and various small ensembles. We don’t have a minimum standard, never audition and pride ourselves in keeping rehearsals relaxed and fun so that you can get a break from busy student life once per week!
While we were founded by medics, we are now all-inclusive and medics make up around half of our membership. We perform at least twice a year, with a Christmas and a spring concert in each semester respectively. In order to hold onto our medical roots, all the money we raise from our concerts is donated to medical charities.
We generally perform a range of classical music, more contemporary pieces from film or theatre, or just plain catchy tunes! In recent years we’ve also had a few successful small ensembles come together within the society- brass group, flute choir and string ensembles to name a few.
Each year, we also go on tour for a weekend around February time. Tour is heaps of fun and a nice get-away from busy Edinburgh life. Last year, we went to Northumberland and performed a concert at a local church.
We also have an active social side to EUMM so you can get to know people who sit on the other side of the ensemble. We do regular pub nights after rehearsals, and socials such at pot-lucks outside of that- they are always really chill so a great way to get to know new people!
