The Edinburgh University Ophthalmology Society aims to direct your interest and gaze towards a career in ophthalmology.
As our medical school offers a mere five days dedicated to teaching ophthalmology, we feel it is essential to increase the exposure for students hoping to pursue a career in the field.
We plan to provide educational events and materials for students—lectures by distinguished experts in the field and exam tutorials—some of which may be online-based in light of the pandemic. These revision sessions are also very helpful for those less inclined towards ophthalmology as we plan to clear up any of your questions! We also want to give support for students sitting the annual Duke Elder exam organised by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
We seek to provide all medical students an insight into ophthalmology as a career, in which we will have career talks about pursuing this specialty.
Unlike other specialties, ophthalmology involves a combination of surgery and medicine. These treatments can often be life-changing to patients making this specialty extremely rewarding. The treatment options are also some of the most advanced with remarkable results. This may be something our society explores with several of our esteemed leaders in the field.
We welcome anybody who shares our interest to join the Edinburgh University Ophthalmology Society!
