Hi, we’re Edinburgh University GP Society.
Despite its reputation within medicine, primary care and good GPs are a vital part of our healthcare system. You’ll have early exposure to GP practices from years 1 and 2. In year 3 you will have the chance to choose a degree which mainly focuses on the academic aspect of general practice. In your clinical years you will have the chance to explore general practice in more detail and gain an understanding of why a good GP can make such a difference in a patient’s life.
As a society, we aim to support all students in their journey through medical school, organising resources for those in their clinical years in preparation for exams. We are hoping to support Year 3 students in their intercalated degree with advice from those who have undertaken the degree in the last two years. As General Practice has multiple facets, we are hoping to organise joint events with other societies in whatever format this may occur this year.
As a cohort, we face the challenge of COVID and how this has affected teaching – as a society we hope we can offer a friendly e-face and eventually real face to support all Edinburgh students with their GP attachments throughout the course. We will show you the potential of general practice and why it’s a career that has many benefits through our events this coming year. We hope to see you all soon – whether it be socially distance and in person or online!
