PsychEd is a volunteering society which provides comprehensive and accessible mental health teaching to local high school students. We visit local schools to deliver lessons on important topics such as anxiety and depression to students age 13-16.
We are a relaxed and welcoming group of students, who are keen to meet others interested in volunteering with us. We host socials and training evenings so you can get to know other society members, and make sure you are prepared for teaching. Local psychiatry trainees also support our volunteers during teaching.
Getting involved with us is a unique opportunity to get teaching experience throughout university and to feel more involved with the local community. The teaching is rewarding and enjoyable – and looks great on the CV. Lessons are pretty infrequent so it’s not a big time commitment.
Whether you are particularly interested in psychiatry or not – we would love for you to get involved with PsychEd. For those interested in psychiatry, this can be a great way to meet trainees and older students with similar interest. And for those not interested in psychiatry, it is still a really interesting and rewarding opportunity.
