Ear nose and throat surgery (ENT) or otorhinolaryngology is an exciting surgical specialty that relates to many areas of medicine and surgery.
Exposure to ENT in the undergraduate medical curriculum is currently limited. However, ENT forms a large proportion of the workload of a GP and ENT conditions commonly overlap with other hospital specialties, such as A&E, paeds, facial plastic surgery, anaesthetics, maxillofacial surgery and neurosurgery.
There are close working relationships with professionals allied to medicine, such as speech and language therapists and experts in audio-vestibular medicine. A good understanding of ENT conditions will therefore be valuable to many students in their clinical careers.
The society aims to promote ENT-related events in Scotland and the rest of the UK. This includes conferences, courses and other opportunities related to ENT surgery. In addition, ENT Soc will liaise students with professionals in the field to provide opportunities for career exploration, shadowing and research projects. Lastly, the society will hold teaching events related to the undergraduate ENT curriculum and surgical skills.
We welcome both non-clinical and clinical students to our events. Please feel free to contact us on Facebook or through our email address. We hope you will find our events valuable and interesting!
