We are the Homelessness and Inclusion Health Society (HIHS), a group of students who are keen to address health inequalities and gaps in healthcare provision locally. Recently founded, HIHS aims to organise students to volunteer in existing homelessness services such as homeless shelters and outreach initiatives.
We believe education is key in tackling health injustices. As well as providing supplementary training for our volunteers, we will be working hard to educate around the causes and health consequences of experiencing homelessness and other health and social inequalities.
In collaboration with the Edinburgh Access Practice, many third sector organisations and the University’s own Centre for Homelessness and Inclusion Health, we will be delivering and signposting educational events and developing a volunteering programme which we would love you to be a part of.
By collaborating with our local partners other student societies, we hope to and inspire students to effectively tackle health inequalities within an inclusive and proactive environment.
This September, we are excited to be recruiting our first full committee and we’d love to hear from you! Our committee is open to both medical and non-medical students.
