Winners announced in the Undergraduate Edinburgh Operational Research Challenge

The Undergraduate Edinburgh Operational Research Challenge is an annual event organised by the School that is open to undergraduate students across the UK with an interest in OR. The challenge involves students acting as consultants to derive a data-driven optimization strategy for a real-world problem posed by an external company or organization.
This year the challenge was run in partnership with Public Health Scotland, who proposed a strategic resource allocation problem to determine how to best serve public medical emergencies. We had students participating from across the UK, including from institutions including the University of Warwick, London School of Economics, Imperial College London and our own University of Edinburgh.
We invited three of the best submissions to Edinburgh to present their results in person to a panel of expert judges. This year we were privileged to have HiGHS sponsor the flagship event. After a long deliberation, the results were:
1st prize: Camila Andreozzi and Glauco Rampone (University of Glasgow), who were awarded a paid summer internship with Public Health Scotland and £400
2nd prize: Alfie Plant (The University of Edinburgh) who was awarded £300
3rd prize Jiarong He and Yi Liu (King’s College London) who was awarded £50
Congratulations!
Thank you to all the students who participated in the Challenge. For more information about the Challenge, please see the Undergraduate Operational Research Challenge website:
