Reflection of Week 3

Good morning everyone,

my week 3 blog is a little late, but I think I needed a bit of time away from my laptop on the weekend to reflect on the first 3 weeks of this semester, on some of my future plans, to try and nurture my body (still fighting with some of the aftermaths of breaking my jaw twice) and enjoying some sunshine on my bike.

However, I thought I’ll briefly share my thought with you here. First and foremost, I really tried to use week 3 to try and get a better work-life balance which I maybe didn’t always succeed at in Semester 1. But I managed very well last week and I think even going for coffee with a friend or to yoga really helped give me the time to process and develop my ideas further (while not thinking about it actively but just processing unconsciously). And I ended up having some great conversations again. I met a woman in a café who has her own start-up and was involved in an incredibly exciting discussion on the ethics of data & AI with some of the staff in the café (turns out she is going to start a job in ethics of AI soon). The conversation went on and we actually got (the girl working in the café and me) got invited to an informal coffee&cake chat since the woman running the start-up would love to have our view on a couple of things she is trying to wrap her head around. So that seems like a super cool chance – and reminds me that I just need to reach out to people sometimes and ask them what they do and if they can tell me a little more about it.

Secondly, and I know I’ve mentioned this before, but after this weeks Q&A for Inclusive Society I feel even more encouraged to turn my final project into something creative. I am really enjoying thinking about producing an artefact, how I can communicate ideas in a completely different medium and to a varied target audience. Makes me almost feel like an art student (and I think thats AMAZING). The amount of times I go to museums to find inspirations and write down little notes of ideas I have for paintings, photography projects, curating etc.etc. So the sign are very much indicating an artsy, creative final project. But maybe I need to be a little more open when it comes to the medium. For instance, I started to compose a music piece for inclusive society, which is something I never really thought of before, but really really enjoyed and is actually a great way of telling a story.

Last but not least, I think I needed a bit of time (and still do) to figure out how my final project will tie in with my “Post-MSc” plans. This week (4) should be giving me some more indication of what route I will potentially go down and with thus potentially help shape/refine my project ideas.

With this wee exploration of my week 3 I shall leave you off & I hope you all have a fabby week ahead of you!

Hey Kass, sorry to hear you had broken your jaw, hopefully you are well on the mend! The conversation in the coffee shop sounds fruitful and it’s great to hear that you are meeting people to have interesting conversations with – little side quests like that are always enjoyable.
It’s great to hear you are thinking of such creative outputs for the Inclusive Society artefact and your final project. Music is such a powerful communication tool and if you have the ability to compose then it certainly sounds like a tool to wield. It also sounds like you already have a lot of passion for exploring different mediums already. I’m rather worried that my (far too many) years of consulting have dulled my creative juices into little more than the ability to lay out a good powerpoint slide! Perhaps a jaunt around some museums or exhibitions might help 🙂
Look forward to hearing about where you’re project ideas end up!

Kass, I hope you get better soon! I get the impression that you’re an explorer and whilst that sometimes comes with the cost of breaking your jaw every now and then, I can also sense an incredible amount of benefit that you get from being curious, speaking to new people and finding new spaces. Really looking forward to hearing more about your project journey. PS I hope the new language learning processes are also going well
