Week 2-New start!

This week I started the week 2. this week I just finish my first intensive course. It’s really interesting for me, because it’s my first time to have guests in the intensive days which helps me a lot to understand the course’s content through analyzing specific cases step by step.

The topic I chose is the distribution of wealth. Through thinking about this topic I started to connect it to what I learned in my undergraduate. A large part of the Chinese government’s income comes from taxation and the planning of fiscal expenditure will be closely linked with social inequality. In one of these countries, the tax system can promote or plan to greatly affect the existence of social equity. Progressive tax can be divided into many types, including full progressive tax system and excessive progressive tax system. Relatively speaking, the excessive progressive tax system is a relatively fair tax system. It is also the tax system adopted by most countries. Through the progressive tax punishment, the people with more income will tax more and the people with less income will tax less, At the same time, setting the minimum tax income standard can reduce the gap between the rich and the poor in society to a certain extent, thus realizing or improving social equity. Another concept closely related to taxation is finance. Taxation and finance are important means for the state to manage society and promote equity. I found I really interested in this topic and it relates to my undergraduate background. I think I will analyze more when I organize my paper of this course.

Because of my visa problem, I have to wait for several weeks then I can back to UK. It’s really annoying!!!! I hope the UK immigration office can solve it quickly, then I can come back to university as soon as possible.

Hi Gene – was your visa issue solved? It’s great that you are able to build on your undergraduate education so that you bring some area of expertise and familiarity with you. I’m curious about “progressive tax punishment” – is this a common framing in literature or the way you are thinking about it? I’d like to hear more.
