week four reflection

In the fourth week, I made a general reflection on the study of the previous three weeks. I have an elective course in the second week and the fourth week respectively, one is the non-inclusion and inequality of our major, and the other is the elective course about post-data society. During those weeks, I was busy reading, doing intensive day preparations, which took a lot of time, and on top of that, I spent a lot of time working on insight through data content, and python was now entirely new to me. I am able to access to python was pleased at the postgraduate level, think if I can learn, he can largely improve my efficiency for data analysis, but perhaps I am a novice, I have had to spend a lot of time at the beginning to understand knowledge, and behind every code contains how each function can be used correctly, This is a reflection on my time allocation over the past few weeks.

In addition, I reflect on how to learn the advantages of different people around me and try to communicate effectively with experts in different fields so as to truly achieve interdisciplinary learning and cooperation. Before I realized that there are barriers between different disciplines, but these barriers for different nature of the subject degree are not the same, as I is accounting major, when I am with business classmates like finance or marketing communication, it is easy to problems in the field of commercial agreement, and when they utter some industry slang, It doesn’t take a lot of work for me to understand; However, when I communicate with people in other fields, such as computer or fashion design, our communication will be not so efficient, or there will be some errors in the transmission of our information (for example, the meaning I want to express is not the same as the meaning he understands). So when we are in intensive day inside in order to solve a task and communicate, sometimes for the same question people will have different opinions, but unable to reach a consensus, or for a specific problem, some students will have no chance to speak, and did not understand what we in the communication, will make them feel a little depressed. This may also be a disadvantage of interdisciplinary learning.

In my study of inequality and sociology, one of the things that I find in much of the sociology literature is that we need to learn to embrace the complexity of society. In the past, people would simplify complex problems for efficiency and tout the benefits of this simplicity. However, in the past few weeks of reading, I found that it is important to pay attention to the complexity and diversity of things. Society itself is complex and diverse. If we think that we simplify something or a problem, we will lose some important things, so that the consequences of dealing with it will not reach the expectation. This with my undergraduate study is not quite the same as before, for business students, most of us do the task is goal oriented, in order to accomplish a purpose and what need to be prepared, what steps need to achieve the desired effect, most tasks have some rules or framework, in most cases we will according to this logic to deal with the problem, That’s kind of simplifying things.Sociology has taught me another logic, although following the routine can accomplish the goal quickly, but do not pay attention to the diversity and diversity of things, or do not pay attention to the people in the process of their feelings, it will affect the outcome of the task. After all, the goal of business is to create economic benefits and values, while the goal of sociology is to pay attention to social material and human development.

The next two weeks will be an intense paper writing process. I hope I can finish my task smoothly.
