Week 3-initial idea of my research

The intensive day learning in this week gave me a new understanding of inequality. In combination with the study of last week, I found that there are various kinds of inequality in the world, and the reasons for each kind of inequality are many minutes and various. But in general, in combination with all kinds of reasons for inequality, one important root of inequality can be found, that is, interest. The reason for all kinds of inequality is that the two parties with equal strength want to compete for various resources to highlight their dominant position, or the party with the dominant position wants to continue to maintain its leading position so as to oppress the party at the disadvantage. The essence of competing for benefits is to live a better life, whether it is embodied in material or spiritual aspects.Material benefits include natural resources, capital, etc., while spiritual benefits are mainly reflected in dignity, social status, and some benefits that bring spiritual pleasure to the dominant party. However, according to Maslow’s needs theory, people usually pursue spiritual things after their physical needs are satisfied, and spiritual benefits such as dignity or social status can also be reflected through material benefits. For example, the accumulation of wealth can enable people to live a dignified and decent life. Therefore, in general, social inequality is closely related to the struggle for material benefits.

I want to study the influence of corporate tax system and shareholder dividend incentive system on income inequality in organizations. The enterprise tax system affects the fiscal revenue of the country. The more income the enterprise has, the more tax it will pay. Therefore, the enterprise may take measures to avoid tax. This is my idea that the corporate tax system will lead to the increase of income inequality. Of course, I need to check more information to verify this matter and study whether a reasonable solution can be put forward.

Thanks for watching! If you have any ideas, please feel free to discuss them with me.

The impacts of capitalism on equality have definitely been an interesting theme that came up a lot in the readings and discussion, so I’m glad to see someone taking a look at this relationship. As you formulate your idea, it might help to expand on specific elements of your questions. For example, is the income inequality referring to the gap between top and bottom earners (vertical, e.g., CEO vs delivery driver) or between people doing the same job but belonging to different groups (horizontal, e.g., men vs women). Best of luck!
