Eid Week Reflections: Organised Mess
To help build my project plan (for those looking for what needs to be included, see p. 12 of the course handbook), I’ve engaged with lots of material in the last couple of weeks to create some structure around what I’d like to cover off within the scope of my project. Here’s it what I’ve come up with so far:
- What is the problem and why are current methods not working?
- What is agency?
- Where do we want to get to? i.e., what is the ideal goal?
- What is play?
- What are my research assumptions? Note: may need to critique these
- What is already known about the benefits and challenges of learning through play for children and/or those in formal education settings?
- The history of games/ structured play
- Making a case of building agency through structured play for adults?
- Critiques, challenges and limitations (linked to 8)
- Is agency built through games transferable?
For 2-8, I’ve been able to find a healthy amount of literature, studies, theories and examples to get me started. The question mark areas that form the basis of my research are the latter considerations (particularly 8-10). These will be covered using a mixture of literature and case studies (via a podcast with some of the creators of serious games that I mentioned last week).
Have a great end to your week all!
