As we move further into the age of artificial intelligence and big data, it is becoming increasingly clear that these technologies can have a significant impact on our society. They have the potential to exacerbate existing inequalities and create new ones, particularly in the areas of data access, privacy, and ownership.

That’s why co-constructing ethical data futures is so important. By involving a diverse group of stakeholders in decision-making processes and developing legal and ethical guidelines, we can ensure that AI-based technologies are developed and deployed in a way that prioritizes fairness, transparency, and accountability.

The benefits of this approach extend far beyond the development of AI-based technologies themselves. We can build a more just and equal society by prioritising social values and ethical principles. We can ensure that everyone has access to these technologies’ benefits, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or gender.

Moreover, involving a diverse group of stakeholders in decision-making processes can lead to more innovative solutions and better outcomes for everyone. It can help to identify potential biases and unintended consequences and ensure that AI-based technologies are designed with the needs and expectations of end-users and affected communities in mind.

In short, co-constructing ethical data futures is essential for building a more just and equal society, where everyone has access to the benefits of AI-based technologies. By prioritizing social values and ethical principles, we can ensure that these technologies are developed and deployed to benefit everyone, not just a privileged few.
