Week 3: beginning of a new semester

Hi all! It was exited and a bit nervous to meet you guys in the intensive course. Your thoughts and the discussion made such a great and comfortable atmosphere. It really changed my holiday mindset into a back-to-campus mode. I didn’t feel as stressed as the last E&I intensive (prob also because there was no presentation for grading), and I did enjoy going through several inclusive programmes, and the things that Grand Bequest is doing really inspired me to connect their solutions to same problems happening in my hometown.

However, my project didn’t have much progress during the winter break. My topic is about to find the inequality caused by health code in the covid 19 surveillance in China, and I think I had a relatively clear thoughts in the last semester. But the things suddenly had a big change on the day when I submitted the KIPP last semester haha. The zero covid policy was abandoned, and much of the functions of health code are no longer used. These made my project lose some timeliness and bought some difficulties in the coming data collection process (like interviews).

I’m trying my best to activate myself into a positive mindset and get myself back to a relatively intensive status. So, firstly starting from the most important futures project. I currently come up with two potential alternative options: one is relying more on the quantitative data, which might have problems of data accessibility or accuracy; the  other is to emphasise the contrast between the covid life before and after, which may prove the hypothesis I made or get some new points. Besides, I will attend the course of data and design for a post-covid city, which focuses more on mobility and urban planning. I think I will get some new ideas there.

    Hi there,

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the intensive – I think there was definitely a lot we could take away from it. Regarding your doubt about your project. I understand that it might feel a bit disheartening now that the rules have changed. However, do you not reckon it’s still important to analyse what effects these inequalities had & potentially still have. Or how the COVID regulations impacted people’s life since I could imagine that still has repercussions now?

Hope you find a way of maybe molding your project &adapting it to the new regulations 🙂

Thanks Kass! I really appreciate and agree with your comment. I think my project topic is still doable and has some new possibilities. I’m trying to find an enduring societal impact caused by the previous regulations. And there is some insights and cases from the intensive that I can take for my project haha.
