My KIPP Blog – Week 1-3

Week 1 & 2

The first week coincided with Chinese New Year. I took my first class, submitted a course change request, exchanged well wishes with my family, enjoyed hot pot with friends, and had my first intensive day on the second day of the lunar calendar. The topic of our group is the Universal Basic Income, a program that gives all people a regular cash income. UBI helps to alleviate exploitation in the productive sphere, liberates people from alienated labor and ensures their basic livelihood needs. At the same time, UBI is a way for people to share all natural resources in society. Theoretically, universal basic income is in line with Marx’s description of communism in terms of “from each according to his ability”, ” to each according to his needs”, and “to achieve communism”. So, I am curious about the feasibility of implementing UBI in China.

Week 3

In Week 3 I read a few articles about Mobility as a Service (MaaS). MaaS is a vision of collaborative and connected urban mobility, providing a combination of public and private transportation services in a given regional environment. And I focused mainly on why this change is needed. The consensus is that MaaS is proposed to solve the problems of traffic congestion, environmental pollution, and energy shortage. In addition, transportation inequality is a major challenge for society. Accessibility features in the MaaS apps, such as wheelchair-friendly routing, congestion information, and screen reader-friendly apps, can support the elderly, parents with children, low-income families, and people with limited mobility and visual impairments, making transportation more inclusive. I guess tomorrow’s class will give me more insight into this topic.
