This statue of poet and songwriter Robert Fergusson is outside Canongate Kirk on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The masked statue sends a message to all who pass about the realities of living in a world tainted by coronavirus. Fergusson is a poignant messenger in that his own story, hundreds of years back, was one marred by illness, mental health issues and finally being sent to an asylum where he died an untimely death at the age of 24.
