An effective way to establish some rapport with (online) students, is to show that you are present in the various activities that they do:
- Occasionally post in the discussion fora
- Reiterate problems that pop up frequently
- For bigger groups: hold managed Q&A sessions
All this should happen over the full development of the course: show that various stages of the learning process in the particular topic require a different mindset which matures and gives students an insight into where they should head themselves.
Naturally, this only matters during the delivery. By implementing various discussion fora or interactive touch points centred around a particularly hard subject, the design will reflect the student’s own difficulties.
