This is retrospective post.

The purpose of this Teaching Lunch Topic was to discuss the interpretation of the A1-A3 grades as the award of upper classifications has been extremely high for the School.

Suggestions from the discussions were as follows:

  • To look at last years outliers to see if there can be prevention for next year
  • Set an additional optional piece of coursework worth 10-20% for students who wish to go beyond the scope of the taught material.
  • Queries over whether College have a guide for marking criteria, however discontent was had due to it appearing to be derived from School of Engineering and College of Art criteria that would not fit with the School.
  • Information to be made available to course organisers with regard to what needs done, when it needs done (for example, when exams need to be set and when coursework submissions are to be set) was requested.
  • Each course has a level of difficulty to fit students years of study – how to differentiate the A1-A3 grading in comparison to this was requested.
