Micro-Learning at the Centre for Open Learning

For the last few months, I’ve been working with academic staff at the Centre for Open Learning and Edinburgh Dementia Prevention to produce a micro-learning module to accompany a series of 4 open lectures on Dementia, hosted from February through to March of this year. Members of the public attending the lectures will have access to an extra learning resource, on their laptops, tablets or phones packed full of information, quizzes and links to additional resources if they want to build on what they learned at the open event.

Developed collaboratively using Articulate Rise, with content provided by Edinburgh Dementia Prevention in the Little France Campus, the module is hosted online, and fully responsive. Rise is an extremely easy tool to use, with a great choice of pre-formatted designs to lay out your content, and a number of quiz question types to choose from. The result looks great, on a desktop, a tablet or a phone. This makes it ideal to design micro learning objects to complement a lecture, whether you are looking for students to engage with your content beforehand, or to get more information afterwards. Rise is also SCORM compatible, which means it integrates easily with a VLE like Learn, and you can grade and collect results from the micro-module.

If you’re interested in developing Learning objects to go with your course, get in touch and we’ll be more than happy to talk to you about the options available.
