Welcome to the Higher Education Research Group (HERG) blog
HERG meets regularly to bring together colleagues across Moray House School of Education and Sport, the Institute for Academic Development, and beyond to discuss current higher education research, network, and advance collaboration. Whilst HERG is comprised mainly of University of Edinburgh colleagues, the group is also open to external members with an interest in Higher Education (HE) topics. Established early in 2020, our regular activities include a Virtual Reading Group and Monthly Morning Coffee Break (follow us on Twitter @research_higher for information on these meetings). Our reading group discussions cover a wide range of research topics and methods, we read both published articles and work in progress of HERG members. In contrast our monthly coffee break is more informal: we chat about our experiences, share personal stories, and ‘boast’ about our cultures. It is a relaxed group in which ideas and connections emerge organically and flourish. The plans for our recent project, The Imaginary Museum of Higher Education were developed and refined in these meetings. Our first event was a great success and we know the project has many more surprises in store for us.
The HERG blog is an arena for group members to share thoughts, pose questions, and communicate with like-minded fellows. We welcome any HE related topics and any viewpoint is valued. Each blog should be around 700- 1000 words. Please consider offering to contribute a blog post on an area of interest to you. Gale Macleod will set the ball rolling with a thought-provoking blog about the imaginary Museum of Higher Education with quite a few profound questions for us to digest and reflect upon.
This is a non-judgmental, supportive, and dynamic community. We heartily welcome any contribution with your unique perspective and original voice. Come and join us! Let’s see what can happen!
