December doesn’t just mean exams – it also means the winter holidays are here! Get in the holiday spirit by checking out the holiday displays upstairs in the SRR.
Saturnalia is a Roman festival honouring the agricultural god Saturn. The holiday involved many traditions including public feasts, exchanging gifts, leaving offerings to Saturn, and more! Some of the traditions of Saturnalia are still around today! Evergreen plants and wreaths were used by the Romans to decorate their homes, much like today.
In addition to Saturnalia, you can learn about the history of the Nativity and the evolution of Christmas.
