The first time I was able to imagine myself at university was when I was visiting Edinburgh with my family in my final year of school. It was quiet on campus but having gone into the HCA reception Clare, the SSR Coordinator, offered to take me up to the SRR. That peek into undergraduate life reassured me and gave me a sense of excited hope for the future.
I have studied in the SRR throughout my four years at Edinburgh but in my final year it has become the centre of my university experience. It quickly became the only place that I wanted to study in, surrounded by friends and course aquaintances. It has been invaluable to be immersed in a community of people who are working and struggling through the same things that I was. The Greek and Latin Authors section has saved me many trips to the main library and is always there when I need to quickly check something or do some more in-depth reading. My final year of university would have looked very different without the SRR.
The success of this space is undoubtably due to Clare’s enthusiasm, passion and determination for the SRR. It has been a privilege to volunteer this year and help alongside the other volunteers to maintain and improve the space. So I would like to end this blog post by thanking her and all the volunteers for everything you have all done to make my final year what it has been.
Thank you, SRR
