Understanding the synthpop package

Aims of the workshop

  • To use synthpop to create a low-fidelity synthetic data set
  • To understand some of the  components of the synthetic data object (of class synds) created by the function syn()
  • Exporting data and statistical disclosure control for synthetic data
  • To learn about some of the parameters of the function syn() for creating synthetic data
  • To get general advice on using synthpop to create synthetic data and the difficulties some data sets may pose.

Use powerpoint for guidance and hints
  • Make a directory for this course and save the bike1 data set to it
  • Read it in and explore it with a few tables and plots
  • Create a low-fidelity synthetic data set from it
  • Examine and try to understand the synthetic data object you will create
