Talend: a data integration tool

We are completing the implementation of the Talend data integration tool.  In the first instance, we are using this to bring data from the Estates system into the University’s data warehouse.  It gives developers a graphical view of how the data flows from one system to the other, which greatly reduces the time taken to create new integrations.

Talend will play a key role in the implementation of the University’s new HR & Finance system, migrating data from the old HR and Finance systems.  It can also be used to connect & transfer data between operational systems, for example to pass finance data into the new Estates planning system.

The system also provides a support dashboard for monitoring the performance of data transfers.  We are creating a core team of developers and production staff who will build and look after our data feeds.
