Investigating the potential collapse of the Greenland Ice Sheet’s land-terminating margin

I am a PhD student on the SENSE Earth Observation CDT programme based within the School of Engineering. I am supervised by Encarni Medina-Lopez and Peter Nienow (School of Geosciences).
My research will investigate changes in the ice dynamics of the Greenland Ice Sheet in response to ice-marginal lake formation and development. Optical and SAR imagery will be used to assess changes in ice velocity, and laser/radar altimetry to determine rates of surface elevation change. Machine learning methods will be applied to constrain ice-marginal lake surface temperatures, and the extent of the ice sheet margin that is susceptible to lake formation will be determined using modern bed topography datasets.
