Clinical Education and Digital Culture

Clinical Education and Digital Culture

The course blog for Clinical Education and Digital Culture

Week 1

I personally really enjoyed Week 1 of what I am sure is going to be a challenging yet highly rewarding module. Although in some ways I was left with more questions than I had at the start of the session!

Firstly we discussed the potential for digital learning to result in less IRL teaching and the potential consequences of that. However I feel like digital teaching and “traditional” bedside teaching are often seen as a dichotomy, whereas I think the most powerful effective teaching is a seamless conglomeration of both – which of course is easier said than done!

Next, the role of Artificial Intelligence within medicine is a fast approaching inevitability, but the successful harnessing of that power is an area in which much uncertainty and speculation exists. I think there will be a huge need for professionalism within all disciplines associated with the effective adaptation, role out and monitoring of safe use of AI within medicine.

Finally we touched on the sometimes frustrating yet necessary platforms which we use on a daily basis to provide connectivity within health care professionals and also students such as eLearning platforms. I am interested to continue this discussion into next weeks discussion on eLearning within medical education.

This, I think, is what we want to strive for as educators these days. Some may (strongly) disagree? 🙂

Great themes for us to consider, thanks Sophie!
