It is never too late to start learning: just go for it!
I wanted to share my experience to inspire others who are thinking about starting university, especially individuals who may feel that age is a barrier.
As a mature student over 56, I am starting my new journey in the area of Childhood Practice.
Although I am already working, I still believe there is always room to learn more. Learning gives us new ideas, builds confidence and provides opportunities to grow.
I am also a mother of three. Two of my children have already finished university, and my youngest child started university this year. It feels very special that we are both on our journeys at the same time and finish in the same year. This makes my journey more meaningful and personal to me.
I know that starting university will not be easy. There may be challenges, and sometimes, it may feel difficult to balance studies, work and personal life. However, I also know that there are people at the university who are there to help and support us.
I am very excited about this new journey. I believe that learning a new area of expertise will shape my work, and even enhance my personal attitudes too.
Children bring colour, joy and energy to the nursery. As mature students and practitioners, we also bring our own life experiences, knowledge and understanding. Together, these can make the learning environment richer for everyone and provide space to share our creative knowledge as well.
My message to others is simple: do not be afraid to start! It does not matter how old you are or how long it has been since you last studied. If you have the passion and the willingness to learn, you can do it.
I hope my story encourages others to take the first step. It is never too late to learn, grow and follow your dreams. Just go for it!
