Reviving the Trinity

Reviving the Trinity

This collaborative, interdisciplinary project looks again at the Trinity Altarpiece by Hugo van der Goes, Trinity Collegiate Church, and Trinity Hospital as emblems of Scotland’s inventive and ambitious cultural milieu, and its active, outward looking engagement with Europe and beyond. The network will re-examine the Trinity, and establish its cultural relevance today. Taking innovative approaches to materialities, geographies, and the wider artistic, intellectual, and cultural networks that connect them during the reigns of James II, III and IV, and the regency of Queen Mary of Guelders, it seeks to identify contemporary networks and reassess the significance of knowledge exchange.

We are delighted to be the recipients of a generous award from the Dorothy Dunnett Society to support our ‘Reviving the Trinity’ book project and we look forward to working with them. Dorothy Dunnett was a superb researcher in many areas of Scottish history and her ‘Niccolo’ series particularly deals with many places, people and events central to our research on the Trinity and the close relationship between Scotland and the Burgundian Netherlands. The society aims to advance the education of the public concerning the history, politics, culture and religion of the 11th, 15th and 16th centuries by promoting the study of and research into such subjects generally and into such subjects particularly as they relate to the works of Dorothy Dunnett, and to disseminate to the public the results of such research.
