For my presentation I wanted my slides to clearly communicate to the audience visually the aesthetic of my project, with each slide looking as if it had been hand crafted and collaged. The items on the first slide are all things that I have found featured in the ‘Material Grrrrlz’ magazine, as well as in the feminist postal art of the 1980s. The slides follow a progression from me briefly describing my project, to me giving historical and contemporary context as to where it will lay, before thinking about the specificities of the curation and how the network proposed will function. I finally round up the slides of the presentation by outlining key themes that my project explores, reflecting on the areas of research and curation I wish to engage with, and some of the key questions I am considering when designing the project. This enables the audience to think about how the proposal has come about and how I am approaching each section of its curation. Finally I use a thorough bibliography separated into academic texts and more general references such as artist’s websites and articles that feel relevant to some of my themes and questions. The images used on each slide are fully referenced, allowing the viewer to see examples of work that relates to the project.
In my narration of the presentation I expand on each bullet point, using the slides as a guide to take the viewer through the set up and current proposed framework of my project. I think the name ‘Stick With It’ works well linking the ideas of both physically sticking stuff to the page with glue when collaging and also items sticking around in an archive when you collect them. It also plays on the thought of you keeping something, it ‘sticking around’ which links to some of the themes of memories and how we record and document events. I wanted my narrative to just supplement the visual imagery to help with any issues in communication, and tried to use links where possible so that the audience could in theory guide themselves through. In presenting I do link back to the first slide at the end, so that the ideas I introduced feel like they now have been given context and justification. I want it to be clear that this is not an exhibition but instead a proposed making and discussion network.
