Stick to the Budget!

Week 12

For budget for Fuinseoga, I would apply for the Traditional Arts Project Award from the Irish Arts Council. I would ask for a grant of €17,500 to make £15,000 (The grant goes to €20,000). This grant is for works that ‘are performance oriented and focus on repertoire new to audiences across all traditional-arts genres (music, song, dance and/or the oral arts, such as storytelling and agallamh beirte), and/or offer experiences unique in the context for which they are intended’. (https://artscouncil.ie/funding-opportunities/project-award/traditional-arts-project-award/)

I would divide the £15,000 as follows:

Artist Fees: £10,000.

  • £9,293.04 for 24 days of work, presuming he would take one day off a week (four weeks)
  • £256 for collection/drying/transport of Ash trees from Axe Forestry, based in Athlone
  • £200 for transport
  • £2200 for finishing materials and additional tools needed

Seanachoiche residency: Free

  • Seanchoíche hire the venue and make money from ticket sales.

Gallery Hire: £1281

  • Luan Gallery has no prices listed. However, if I compare it to the prices of Dundas Street Gallery in Edinburgh which is a rental exhibition space in New Town which charges £1,500 per week during September (https://www.dundas-street-gallery.co.uk/cost/), Luan Gallery would probably charge less. This is due to its smaller scale, location in the countryside, as well as its municipal function.
  • This would include invigilators and other gallery staff.

Website/Youtube: £192

  • I would pay for one year of Wix Core package. This would allow me to place up to 50GB of recordings on the site.
  • After the year is up I would enquire if the OPW (Culture and Heritage sector in Ireland) would be interested in paying for the website upkeep. If not, I would move the recordings to YouTube.
