Course Feedback:
In this lesson, we learned about the relationship between curation, archives and history. I learned that contemporary archives are not limited to preservation, but through open access and public display, they have become a platform for social and cultural dialogue, moving from the fringe to the mainstream and becoming an important tool for artistic practice. The exhibition is reactivated as an archive and comes in three forms: Replica, Riff and Reprise. The curators activate untold history through archives, with a particular focus on marginal narratives such as women, labor, and decolonization.

I visited Trading Zone 2025. It is a work centered on a fictional drama, reflecting the feelings of others through some classic monster images. She uses many installations to present her work. Her works have inspired me to translate the plot of opera into installation art, and to express the mainly auditory art through visual art.

Beaney made a film about living with endometriosis from her own experience, exploring how to use experimental art to present women’s chronic diseases. Her art works focus on women’s bodies and show women’s diseases that are not noticed by the world, which is a good work to understand women’s physiology.

Wenqi Zou incorporates traditional forms of healing practice for women into the artwork, including snake, shaman and acupuncture patterns. I think the snake installation in Figure 2 looks like a human spine, while Figures 1 and 3 show some of the tools of female healing in a very beautiful form.

Individual Project:
I modified my personal project according to Adam’s suggestion. Due to many restrictions on the venue I chose before, I changed the venue from collective gallery to summerhall, and I want to hold the exhibition in a small venue in summerhall. At the same time, I am also considering the layout of the exhibition space, and I will choose between the circle and the S-shape. I think both have their different advantages. The circular exhibition area can better show the change of time, while the S-shaped exhibition area will make the exhibition division more obvious.
I’m also thinking about whether I need to change artists. Keziah Greenwood’s work is a visual art presentation of theatre, which I think is also a good entry point and fits in well with the theme of my exhibition, perhaps inviting her to re-create opera works.
Collective Meeting:
This week’s activity is flower arrangement, each of us brings a different bouquet, we choose their own favorite flowers to match and form a new bouquet. After the flower arrangement activity, we also played the game of guessing brand names, which was a good activity to enhance our relationship. After the game, I felt that our friendship became deeper.
