My Individual Project
In the sixth week, I showed the contents of the exhibition I planned to the students in the group, and mainly revised the following aspects. The first one was to sort out all the timeline of the development of feminist movement and opera, focusing on the overlapping parts of their development; The second is to add sculptures to the costume section of the exhibition, so that the audience can more intuitively see the change of clothing; The third is to add opera lines dubbing and opera costume experience in the interactive experience part to increase the interest of the exhibition and the audience’s sense of experience. At the same time, I also plan to set up some cultural and creative products for the exhibition, such as postcards, canvas bags, ornaments, etc. I can not only consider cooperating with artists and design companies, but also obtain new income by selling products. What’s more, I plan to set up a website or Instagram account to publicize the exhibition online and collect the comments of the audience on the exhibition.

In view of my above content, Adam and my classmates gave me some suggestions: First, the exhibition venue should be changed from fruit market to summer hall, because fruit market is more inclined to modern and contemporary art, while summer hall is more in line with the nature of historical exhibition. Before, I chose fruit market because the size of the venue is relatively suitable, and I am also very clear about the nature of the exhibition in fruit market. However, because I am not familiar with the venues in Edinburgh, it is difficult to make a proper judgment on other venues. The second is to change the costume experience area to the entrance of the exhibition, because it is more convenient for tourists to experience, tourists can wear costumes to visit the entire exhibition and take photos for remembrance. The third is to cancel the parts of other artists, and focus on the historical part of the analysis. People think that my exhibition is substantial enough that there is no need to add any more superfluous parts. In addition, Adam suggested that I think about the layout of the exhibition, he thought it would be better to form a circle. My classmates also suggested that I think more about the audience of the exhibition.

This week, I also visited the exhibition set up in the botanical garden, and the students’ ideas were very interesting. First of all, the botanical garden fits in well with the theme of seeking nature in the exhibition, which is full of life both inside and outside the pavilion. Your works are both a reinterpretation of nature and a discussion of human nature. I think the topic selection is very clever. For example, in picture 1, the author explains that this is both a combination of branches in nature and art, and a promotion of feminism. She uses male reproductive organs as part of her work and explains to us that previous works have always emphasized the physiological characteristics of women, so why not emphasize the physiological characteristics of men in modern works? This is not only an artistic innovation, but also a challenge to the so-called male authority, making people further aware of gender equality, so that women have more say. In addition, picture 2, for example, is a discussion on the morality of public opinion. The video shows the student making fake trees from unnatural materials, but in the newspaper she was portrayed as an expert and created a technique to make plants evergreen (picture 3). It can be seen that public opinion can influence people’s judgment, and there are many news that we do not know is true or false, which is confusing our sight. More, there are realistic leaves made of wool and other materials (picture 5), trees woven by visitors (picture 6), and the ethics of customized baby features and surrogacy(picture 7).
I was surprised by the art works of my peers, because they were able to integrate the themes of the exhibition with social phenomena so naturally. At the same time, I also got a lot of inspiration from their exhibition, which will be used to improve my own work.
