Week9 Summer Hall

This week, our team met at Summerhall to discuss our various projects, which led to insights and a critical reassessment of my curatorial approach.
Reassessing my curatorial approach
Listening to my colleagues’ different projects, I understood the importance of aligning the scale of the exhibition and artist selection with the resources and experience of emerging curators. Recognising that overly ambitious exhibitions can exceed practical capabilities, I now focus on artists and forms that resonate with my current position in the curatorial field. This strategic shift aims to ensure the viability and professionalism of my exhibitions and to promote more impactful and coherent presentations.
The importance of collaborative engagement
The collaborative discourse of our group emphasised the value of teamwork in curatorial practice. Interacting with peers not only provided new perspectives and inspiration, but also highlighted the role of collective endeavour in strengthening curatorial projects. Such collaborative
presentations can lead to innovative approaches that may not occur in isolation.
Moving Forward
This experience has helped refine my curatorial vision. By adopting a more focussed and realistic approach, I aim to curate an exhibition that is both professional and resonates with audiences. The insights gained from our collaborative discussions will undoubtedly inform my future endeavours, reinforcing the importance of adaptability and teamwork in the evolving landscape of curatorial practice.
Overall, the conference at Summerhall was a catalyst for meaningful reflection and growth. It emphasised the importance of aligning one’s ambitions with reality and demonstrated the valuable benefits of artistic collaboration.
