🏘️ Neighbourhood and Cultural Climate Analysis

Cultural resonance:

1. the proximity of the Glasgow School of Art (GSA), with its strong community of artists and students, lends itself to experimental and critical projects.

2. nearby spaces such as CCA (Centre for Contemporary Arts), Tramway, etc. often have exhibitions related to women, cool kids and sound, forming a good curatorial ‘cultural ecological belt’.

Audience base:
Due to its strategic location, it can attract:
1. local residents (especially young people)
2. students from GSA, University of Glasgow, etc.
3. international audiences during the Glasgow Festival, Sound Art Festival, etc.

🧯 Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) & Public Liability

Public Safety Considerations:
1. all areas are low-light auditory spaces with emergency exit signs and clear walking paths
2. Sound levels do not exceed the standard decibel level (85dB is recommended to avoid auditory stimulation).

Public Liability Insurance (PLI):
1. Listen Gallery carries its own arts venue liability insurance.
2. for extended public programmes or collaborative workshops (e.g. external performances), refer to the basic insurance provided by the Scottish Artists’ Union or budget for the cost of external liability insurance.

🧱 Project Layout & Installation Design (space planning advice)

Layout Scenarios :
1. Entrance: text guide + introduction audio
2. Area 1: The Unwanted Cry: black box space, maternal soundscape surround device, multi-track foetal auditory simulation.
3. Zone 2: Growing in Silence sound installation with menstrual shame ASMR soundscape.
4. Area 3: The Traded Voice Multi-channel electronic music dance video with costume display (e.g. Rawdah Wun wedding dress)

Immersive space:
1. use of moving screens, cloth curtain partitions to achieve sound space division (can be requested from ECA or Listen Gallery)
2. consider soft acoustic mats for floor covering materials to create a sense of body-sound oneness

🎛 Equipment & Technical

Equipment Sources:
1. small sound system, headphones (can be borrowed through the ECA Bookit system or provided by Listen Gallery)
2. small acoustic curtains or exhibit wall structures (available from universities or spaces)

 Lower Budget:
1. use of ECA-provided equipment + college furniture resources
2. all sound works can be played on portable players and multi-person headphones to reduce set-up costs
