In my group’s pitch for Building Near Futures, we envision a future in which CRISPR technology, initially known for its controversial role in genetic manipulation and designer babies, takes on a new purpose: combating deadly viruses like the fictional Sudden Infant Death Virus (SIDVID-27). With traditional vaccines ineffective against SIDVID-27, we propose the use of CRISPR to edit the genomes of embryos, offering a potential shield against this devastating disease.
