Through a comprehensive literature review and critical analysis, it will synthesize insights from various disciplines to address complex ethical dilemmas associated with AI commodification and decentralization. By leveraging advanced research skills in AI studies, the project will propose practical solutions and policy recommendations grounded in empirical evidence and ethical considerations. This interdisciplinary approach will foster a holistic understanding of AI’s societal impact and promote informed decision-making at the intersection of technology, ethics, and governance.
I pitched a creative intervention as part of the Narratives of Digital Capitalism course and became convinced that this kind of artistic critique can be one of the most effective ways of alerting the public to important issues: the spectacle attracts the public, facilitating the communication of an idea to a wider audience than academia can often achieve. In Transforming Economies I leant about the detrimental impacts of current economic systems on human and planetary well-being. The course, featuring an extensive reading list covering diverse sources, was led by an inspiring instructor who advocated for a circular economy and encouraged us to think big when it comes to societal change. This influenced my decision to write a thesis proposing a significant change in how AI is integrated into the economy.
In addition to the interdisciplinary research aspect, this project will creatively integrate music, poetry, and comedy to communicate complex AI ethics issues in an accessible and engaging manner. The song, crafted in the style of Bo Burnham, will leverage music’s emotive power, poetry’s rhythmic language, and comedy’s wit to convey key messages effectively. By combining these artistic elements with academic insights, the project aims to reach a broader audience and spark meaningful conversations about AI ethics and societal impact in an innovative and memorable way.
