Methods

As for research methods, I would like to combine qualitative research with quantitative research.

Regarding qualitative research, I think the most feasible way is online interview. I haven’t contacted the organizations and personnel related to the Spring Bud Project, so my plan is to interview a teacher who teaches in rural areas, but I haven’t found a candidate yet; the possibility of finding one later is quite big, so I decided this research method.

About the content of the interview, I made a rough outline.

  1. Current situation of education: the number and reasons of girls entering school, dropping out of school and not attending school; the distribution of educational resource, whether the girls receive special support from the government or schools (such as sanitary napkins).
  2. Community/social concept: What is the phenomenon of son preference now? The attitude of social/family concept towards girls’ schooling; Does the current family still need girls to drop out of school to reduce the family’s economic burden?
  3. Government/social factors: Have the interviewees heard of the educational support programs provided by the government or the organization like Spring Bud Organization? What’s the effect?
  4. economic factors: Are the costs and conditions of going to school now unbearable?

Regarding quantitative research, I choose to collect statistical data and make a comparative analysis of gender and region. Because it is impossible to conduct field research, the most feasible way at present is to obtain data from published reports, cases or documents.
