I am concerned about the problem of educational inequality which is an important challenge in the global education system. There is a famous rural educator in China named Zhang Guimei. She has been teaching in remote and poor areas of Yunnan for many years and witnessed a large number of girls unable to complete their studies because of poverty or traditional concepts. In order to help these girls get educational opportunities, Zhang Guimei founded the first completely free high school for girls in China in 2008. Thousands of girls from poor areas go out of the mountains and enter universities because of her. Her story was made into a movie, which deeply inspired me.
In many countries, especially developing countries, there are great differences in educational resources between urban and rural areas. School facilities and teachers in rural areas are often less developed, which leads to the unbalanced quality of education received by students.
Unequal education will lead to social injustice and limit individuals’ opportunities to improve their lives through knowledge and skills. It will be difficult for poor people to break intergenerational poverty, and the gap between the rich and the poor will solidify and gradually increase, which will lead to social instability. Therefore, it is very important for the government and the community to take effective measures. Provide policy and financial support, strengthen infrastructure construction, and ensure the balanced distribution, funding and scholarships of educational resources.
After two weeks of classes, I feel that my mind and vision have broadened. I began to think about problems from multiple angles and fields. I hope I can learn more knowledge and skills and make my own contribution to education.
