Week 7

Waiting for Marcus – shoot day

Apart from doing the DIT, I was offered to be an extra for the scene that was being shot during the day.

The day before the start of the shoot we were given detailed information about time and role information when we should show to the set. The location for the first day was Edinburgh College of Art offices, and the filming happened in the Wee Red Bar.

My time call was around 1000. First I came into the room where actors and extras were gathering to prepare for the shoot. As for extras, we were given some pink props. I was given a dress, a pink scarf and I brought with me transparent glasses, which I previously put pink ribbons on.

When I first came runners were preparing the location for filming to make it look like a party is happening there.

The filming process is very interesting. It includes a lot of running, rehearsal and organisation. Having that many people on set requires constant moderation and set. Everyone is participating in creative work and contributing their own ideas and opinions.

At almost 1600, the shoot is finished for the day. The rest of the crew (which stresses mutual respect on the production) are cleaning the location. I went to the cinematographer to get the SD Card with the material. After that, I went to the sound recorder and picked up the SD Card with sound material. I went to the classroom above to transfer the files. Sara landed me her adapter and a hard drive.  I created a folder called Waiting for Marcus on the disc. In that folder, I created another folder, called Shoot 28.02.2024, and another set of folders called Video and Audio. Files created during the shooting day I had transformed into the two last folders.

Later on in the evening, I was informed by Angus that they no longer needed the DIT as the SD Card capacity that they had would be enough for the rest of the days.

Though I admit to not contributing much to the production, I believe the most important thing was to experience organised filming in action. The production which I became a part of later as someone who would contribute on a more professional ground and beyond filming just with coursemates. This goes on a more formal ground which would be useful in the future.
