Hi, welcome to my blog!
I’m Mengyi, a recent graduate from the China Academy of Art this year. I majored in Art Administration, which focused on the history of art, art institutions’ practices, curating, book publishing, and other courses. I developed an interest in Feminism and Curation in my sophomore year and began to study feminism and curation, trying to design curatorial proposals independently. Throughout my undergraduate years, I had various placements that provided ample opportunities to familiarise myself with galleries and art museums.
I am passionate about reading and writing; occasionally, I write narrative art evaluations to enhance my writing skills. Additionally, by the end of this year, I will be co-authoring a book with my mom. I’m also fond of playing musical instruments, like piano and guitar. My curatorial interests are surrealism and feminism.
This year, I’ve got involved with a team about a feminism exhibition, the Great Mother. I became interested in this exhibition because I wanted to explore more details about the connection between the 59th Venice Biennale and feminism. I even wrote an essay investigating some artists’ works to gather different perspectives for research purposes. Initially collecting 228 artworks for consideration led us to select around 100 pieces that best represented not only feminism but also mysticism and surrealism to provide an opportunity for artists as if they were in the 59th Venice Biennale. As an assistant in this project, I learned the entire process of how to design an exhibition and communicated with many artists to have a better understanding of their ideas.
I hope that after participating in Tablet Rice Gallery, I can acquire knowledge about systematic exhibition planning while immersing myself in different cultures. I believe it will significantly contribute towards enhancing my curatorial skills.
Thanks for taking the time to read my self-introduction, I hope this finds you well!
