Introduction - European Trade Union Committee for Education(Image)

Finding a footing in what I feel is ‘the’ most pressing issue in education to focus on is challenging. I find myself settling on ideas, snowballing into new territories, and then losing myself in the soup of wicked problems in the world of education.

I decide on a broad theme that strikes a chord with me. Then, I go through a never-ending cycle of trying to narrow that scope, only to end up with multiple broad ideas that create a storm of confusion and disillusionment about the issues facing the education landscape today and tomorrow.

Before my arrival on the course, migration and education had always been a rooted interest of mine. Using that as my broad lens, I would like to use the next few weeks and months to read, reflect, and identify pressing issues in this intersection that could potentially lead me to a core question(s).

  1. What are the leading causes of migration?
  2. Which of these causes has the most significant impact on education?
  3. Is this impact desirable?
  4. Does age have a factor in this impact?
  5. Are children and their educational journey impacted by this?
  6. How can we, as educators, support/mitigate these effects?

I aim to keep these questions at my core. What leads from them yet? I am unsure, but my interests still hinge on developing and refining these questions. It is not necessarily a step forward but a reassurance that the foundations of my interests are stable.
