Reflect on the EFI shared core ‘Ethical Data Futures

When considering the case studies, I can further explore the core concepts and teaching objectives of this course.

Firstly, through case studies, the course showcases the real challenges of data ethics. The cases of Facebook’s election experiment and the data sharing agreement between Crisis Text Line and Loris.ai represent typical examples, revealing the ethical dilemmas faced in the digital era. These cases not only provide me with material for analysis and discussion but also stimulate contemplation on issues such as data privacy, user rights, commercial interests, and social responsibility.

Secondly, the course emphasizes the importance of interdisciplinary approaches through case studies. The Facebook and Crisis Text Line cases involve knowledge from various fields such as technology, psychology, law, and business. Therefore, I need to transcend disciplinary boundaries, integrating knowledge and methods from different fields to fully understand and address data ethics issues.

Furthermore, case studies provide me with opportunities for practical experience. During the analysis of cases, I need to apply theoretical knowledge to propose solutions and evaluate their potential impacts. This practical learning approach helps deepen my understanding of data ethics principles and cultivates my problem-solving abilities and judgment.
