Work Package 1: System design
In this work package, I completed training for the operation of a conventional IHDAC system and designed a new IHDAC system and its preparation processes at School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh. When designing the new system, I focused on its application to H2O and other potential non-metallic planetary components such as Mg2SiO4 and Al2O3.

Schematic cross sections of the internally resistive-heated DAC designed in this project. a) single-sided system; b) double-sided system. The SiO2 glass serves as a thermal insulator between a sample and anvils, while cement and a mixture of cubic-boron nitride (cBN) and epoxy isolates the heater from the rhenium (Re) gasket.
