Forum & Bayes DHCP changes

This is for the attention of all those who have a self-managed computer (i.e. not MDP Windows or DICE Linux) using a wired network connection in either the Forum or Bayes Centre. This wired connection will be at risk next week – read on for details.

Please be aware that we plan to replace the DHCP service next Wednesday morning (26th February). This service is used to dynamically allocate IP addresses to systems when they connect to the network. The existing database of allocated IP addresses will be transferred to the new service so it is likely that you will not notice any difference. To reduce the risk of complications arising, a few days ahead of this change we will significantly reduce the lease time from the standard one day. Throughout this process there is a small chance your computer will be allocated a new, different address.

If you have any questions about this, please contact Computing Support via our web form.
