Appleton Tower full power shutdown and User Support managed services.

Dear Colleagues,

Summary: Appleton Tower DICE lab desktops and PGR compute servers offline from Friday 28th June 19:00 until the morning of Monday 1st July.

As you may know, the Appleton Tower (AT) power will need to be switched off for important work on Saturday 29th of June.
Because of this, all of User Support Unit managed systems in the Appleton Tower services will be switched off and not working until Monday morning. These are:

  • All of the DICE desktops in all of the labs in AT
  • All servers in AT, including User Support managed ones:
    • artemis
    • Postgraduate Research servers: almond, betel, coconut.
  • All powered equipment, including Audio-Video, as there will be no power to the Tower.

This means any computing in progress on these servers will be stopped and any data stored there will not be available for the time of the maintenance.
The servers are best considered unavailable till Monday morning.
